Becoming apart of the U-TURN family has not only been a dream come true for me, it has been a life changing experience in relation to my understanding of the music industry in becoming a better rounded artist.

Since first connecting with Godfrey Fletcher via facebook in late 2009, I have collaborated with many great artists, who I have come to know and care about. Each artist in their own right has massively contributed in helping me step up my game, change my mindset and attitude to life, as well as encouraged me to grow from strength to strength.

I know this may sound a little cliché, but if I had to sum up how being a part of the U-turn family makes me feel in one sentence, I would have to say that it feels as though I have won the lottery. I have transformed so much artistically over the last few months, that I hardly recognise myself. I have learned to put a value on my sound and the work I do which was something I took for granted.

In the space of 8-10 months my sound has been heard across the globe, I’ve featured in my first video shoot, I’ve been produced by and am currently working with the Legendary Herb Middleton who is not only an amazing musician but he produced several tracks for my icon Mary J Blige who inspired me to become the vocalist you see today plus, I have just started working my own event to help promote independent artist like myself.

My artistic journey as a result of the U –Turn project has enabled me, to connect with real artist who are real people that understand the meaning of being true. I am proud to call this collective my second family because they have really helped me to grow. I truly believe that if it wasn’t for Godfrey Fletcher who I’d like to call my guardian angel, I may never or should I say would have never of had the opportunity to work so many great people.

The U-TURN project for me represents preserving great music with meaning whilst bringing people of all ages, nationalities, ethnic backgrounds together to promote positive vibes. As a mother of two in my early thirties, the U- Turn project has embraced and provided opportunities for independent artist such as myself who would not normally fit into the current media or should I say societal categories that are consider acceptable. 

The U-Turn for me promotes Truth which is why I love being a part of it.

I became of The U-Turn Project earlier this year, when a few of my mixtape and unreleased tracks were heard by Godfrey Fletcher & Herb Middleton. I was invited to contribute a few bars, to a beat that Herb had passed around, and that was how we got started. Things really began to move, in my case, when I wrote to a song called Getaway, created by Herb and featuring JP.

Being a part of The U-turn Project has helped me to grow, as an artist, immensely in a very short space of time. It has taken me from being the average struggling artist, to becoming a more rounded and motivated professional. The U-Turn Project has taken my career from relative obscurity, and put it within eyesight & earshot of a much wider audience, in a matter of months.

In the future, you can expect to hear the track I mentioned earlier, “Getaway”, produced by Herb Middleton, and featuring JP’s soothing vocals on hook. Also, ifyou don’t know by now, the title track “U-Turn” is already growing in popularity and exposure, so expect to see & hear good things with that one! And possibly some brand new, extra special things will come your way from The U-Turn Project very soon!

U-Turn is a home for artists that still believe in organic & authentic music. The kind you can relate to, chill to, and even enjoy too!!

I am overjoyed to be involved with the U Turn project as it is connecting a community of artists & music lovers together with the same goals in mind… like, driving that passion back into music and delivering that buzz that used to drive the music lover into, searching for that particular track, discovering new artists, supporting artists and not to be a sheep listening to what the worldwide media puts in front of them!

DJ DK the man behind the Rhythmbox outfit was born & raised in the UK, heavily influenced by a wide genre of music rangeing from reggae to electronic dance music!

DK was on the club circuit playing house & garage, entertaining crowds worldwide and playing with some of the most respected deejay’s spanning over the past 20 years in Ibiza, Tenerife, Aiya Napa & the UK. He produced and presented radio shows for local radio stations and lent a hand in various music projects over the years but now concentrates on music production and remixing under the name Rhythmbox Music, he delivers non complex but rich, soulful dance music with meaning…

In 2007 Rhythmbox released the underground smash “U Want House EP” as a limited vinyl press before the full digital release & “It’s Over EP”, both of these releases are signed to The Digital Jukebox label and are available from all good online stores e.g. ITunes, Amazon, Napster, Mixmag etc…

True to the original form of Hip- Hop, Mahogany Jones began as a poet raised in Mount Vernon NYC attending local spoken word events. She then got introduced to the likes of J-Live and Jean Grae amongst others which was to be the start of Mahogany Jones’ careers in Hip-Hop.

She now represents fully as a member of Toni Blackman’s (“Hip-Hop Ambassador”/Activist) Freestyle Union as well as being an active member of Holy Hip-Hop’s movement, The Yuinon. She has shared stages with the likes of Dead Prez, The Roots, India Arie and many others, and has a style that I think is needed in Hip-Hop right about now.

From the minute I pressed play on this new track from Mahogany Jones I knew this was something special. I mean not only Mahogany Jones hold her own on the mic but the production is outstanding too. On the beat is the man like Herb Middleton who is for those that don’t know is the multi platinum producer who has worked with the likes of R’n’B and Hip-Hop legends such as Faith Evans, Total, Usher, Christopher Williams, Nas, Mary J Blige and many more.

Sampling the 1978 Rose Royce classic ‘Love Don’t Live Here Anymore’, this track is straight smooth butter and reminds of that Golden Era Hip-Hop that we all love so much! Mahogany Jones spits with ease giving a great vibe with a smooth flow that is delivered really well.

This is a no-nonsense track and has some great lyrics as well as being really cool and laidback. This is what Hip-Hop needs! Dope, fly and above all, pure quality!

This talented rapper straight out of Wilmington, Delaware and has really impressed me with this track. He has a really nice vocal tone, a really well delivered clear tight flow, some clever metaphors and punch-lines and it’s all smoothed out with production by the legendary super producer Herb Middleton.

For those that don’t know of Herb’s work do your homework as this man has spread his magic on some of the world’s best selling artists Nas, Mary J. Blige, Notorious B.I.G and many more. This is a musical marriage that really has picked up my ears. This is quality and if you like that real authentic Hip-Hop vibe this is going to get you well excited.

What I like about this artist is how the whole story behind it. He is an artist grew up with his father not being around and fell into the realms of hood life but switched his life up and got his shit together and now is making quality music. I felt that when hearing this track, I felt a certain energy and attitude, uniqueness and originality. It’s nice to hear new artists not copying what’s successful, because on a level, that’s how our music grows.

Mr. Middleton goes hard with the beat on this one with crazy fly string & vocal stabs over a rocking up-tempo live sounding drum pattern. Its got the nod-factor for real and when B-Wellz starts spitting with his energy and swagger it’s as B-Wellz has ‘this is hip-hop, its we do’. His vibe is positive and proper raw, and to be honest made me realise why I love Hip-Hop so much. The hook and chorus is so infectious and has had me chanting it all night!

The next time I play out I am going to play this track and I know its going to be an anthem. Hip-Hop aint dead… it’s still here. Trust me.

In a nutshell the U Turn project is a collective of artists put together on one CD in hopes of bringing music/hip hop back to what it use to be…back to a time when emcee’s rhymed about real issues and when singers could really sing and not need auto tune.

It is the brainchild of the legendary producer Herb Middleton. Ever heard of Biggie, Mary J., Nas, SWV, Total, and Al Green to name a few? Well…look in their liner notes and find this producers name! My boy in the U.K. Godfrey Fletcher mentioned my name to this U.S. producer and the rest is history.

We are currently working on everything from music, to music videos to movies. You will be hearing more from me and this project that I consider to be more of a movement in the weeks to come…so stay tuned.

The U.K. tour also acted as a means for me to finally link up with and meet some of my extended U Turn family…and it was exactly as how I envisioned it…real artists, with a real message who are tired of what we are forced to listen to on mainstream radio and accept as quality music.

We’ve been involved in the U Turn Project since the very beginning. It’s the biggest thing to happen in our lives so far! The U Turn project represents not only real independent musical artists but also the soul and feeling that used to be created in rhythm and rhyme! When I hear some of the artists on the project it makes me feel privileged to even be taking part.

We’re now working with the type of people that we came up listening to, you know?  It feels so satisfying to hear your voice in the same breath as such soulful singers as Juliette, Coco Brown and Clover Ray. Nearly immediately after being introduced to the project we were having a track produced by Big Herb himself!

The feeling is still sinking in to this day! To call it a dream come true would be an understatement! In our field of music He’s one of the all time greats when it comes to production and has worked with some of our biggest influences in the game to date! To me it’s much more than a music project.

It’s a message, a message that true, powerful music still does exist. It’s a U Turn back to peace, Love, understanding and togetherness! We’ve got to thank our good friend and mentor Godfrey Fletcher and Mr Herb Middleton for making all of this happen and inviting us to take part!
